Bookkeeping and payroll · UK specialist

Behind on your books? That's the work I want.

David Wyness

Most bookkeepers want tidy accounts and a clean handover. I'd rather have the file nobody's touched since last spring, work out what actually happened, and hand you back something that balances.

Business current account: before cleanup Business current account: after cleanup, reconciled to statement

Balance per accounting software 18,442.19 15,228.19
Balance per bank statement 15,228.19
Unexplained variance 3,214.00 0.00

You get the diagnosis before you commit to anything

Give me read-only access and I'll send you a written assessment of what's wrong. Not an estimate, a list. How many months are unreconciled, how many transactions are uncategorised, where the balances diverge and what most likely caused it.

Your accountant can read it. You can take it to somebody else if you'd rather. Only then do we talk about price, and the price is fixed.

What I do

  • Cleanups and catch-ups

Accounts that have fallen months or years behind, reconstructed and reconciled. Fixed price once I've seen the file.

  • Monthly bookkeeping

Reconciliation, categorisation, VAT returns and month-end reporting on a fixed monthly fee.

  • Payroll

Payroll runs, RTI submissions, auto-enrolment filings, starters, leavers and year end.

  • Migrations and setup

Moving between Sage, Xero and QuickBooks without losing history, or setting a new business up properly the first time.

  • Automation

If you're typing the same thing into a spreadsheet every week, it can usually be made to happen by itself. I build the tooling as well as use it.

UK VAT, CIS and payroll are where I'm strongest. Cleanups, reconciliation and migrations don't depend on jurisdiction, so I take that work from Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada as well.

For accountancy practices

If you've got bookkeeping or payroll you'd rather not do in house, I take white-label work. You keep the client relationship and the agent authorisation. I work to your deadlines and your file standards, and the work goes out under your name.

Happy to run one client for a month at a reduced rate so you can judge the work rather than the CV.

Tell me roughly how far behind you are and which software you're on. I'll reply the same working day with what an assessment would involve and what it costs.
